What is the definition of Product Experience Management (PXM)?

Product Experience Management (PXM) refers to the product-related presentation of a digital customer experience. It describes the processes, tools and activities involved in standardizing, optimizing and distributing a brand’s digital portfolio.

PXM is important as it helps brands to deliver product information in the right context, for the right channel. When you apply PXM principles to your sales and marketing, you can help ensure that every asset and every piece of content is adapted to suit the distribution path and locality it is targeted at—across every touchpoint the customer has with your brand. This optimizes the buying experience, reduces margin for error, and improves brand awareness and brand consistency.

Effective PXM software needs to operate across every channel that a business uses; including marketing automation tools, e-commerce platforms, and digital advertising networks. It should include every relevant content asset from product descriptions and imagery, marketing messages, and advertising content.

The right images will be matched with the correct product descriptions and prices, text will appear on the correct website domains in the language of the user, relevant ads will be distributed to the best digital advertising platforms, the most appropriate messaging on social media channels, and so forth.

PXM works best when connected to a digital asset management system. Read our recent blog on DAM x PXM to find out how global CPG products manufacturer Church and Dwight are benefitting from this combo.

What is the best software to support Product Experience Management and why?

Product Experience Management does not exist in a silo. It needs the right software platforms to support the various processes and workflows required to make it successful.

Digital Asset Management systems (DAM)

Digital Asset Management systems (DAM) provide a secure, centralized location for brands to store, manage, organize, and distribute digital files such as photos, text documents, and videos.

DAM systems streamline and enhance PXM by making it much quicker and easier to locate and share files, from any location. Users control access and permissions, making sure the most up to date, correct files are used at all times. This saves a significant amount of time, reduces margin for error and improves the customer experience.

Product Information Management systems (PIM)

Product Information Management systems (PIM) do for product data what DAM does for digital files. PIM is critical for the management of product data, therefore effective PXM cannot exist without PIM. The two systems have a lot in common; the ability to deliver a personalized, targeted customer experience, for example. But their fundamental objective is different. PIM is the processes that enrich product data and PXM is the tactics and activities that are used to showcase that data.

Integrated PIM and PXM has huge benefits for businesses, but did you know that PIM and DAM also complement one another? Find out more about the differences and similarities between PIM and DAM and how they integrate.
